can the inertia switch be disconnected to eliminate the flashers being needlessly activated?

Just consider it an XXXXXXtreme alert. Helps people know when you're being XXXXXtreme!

Mine did it once in my old RRC, when I accidentally gave my RTE sliders a great big bonk!

Mine does it on slightly washboard roads, even when i'm not driving hard. As long as it doesn't affect restarting, first its merely aggravating and later its something joke about

If you take the panel off under the pass side dash there is a green box with a bunch of wires coming out of it. The bracket that hold the box isn't very stable and in most disco's it bounces on bumpy/washboard roads and trips the sensor in the green box.
Take a couple Zip Ties and attach it to something solid under the dash and your problem should be solved.

Heres some pics..
