Default Oil pump symptoms

Have a weird issue. Knocking going on internally. Replaced with heavier oil. Problem persisting. Assumed its the rod/bearing, and preparing to replace the engine. 3 days ago, the knocking stopped all together. Nice and quiet. Running smooth. Today the knocking is returning. What could be causing this. Bad oil pump?

ive been dealing with an oil pressure issue myself so i will gladly share what my plan of attack has been...

first off, the idiot light is pretty reliable in these things.
-dumb question, but hows your oil level?
-does it 'knock' cold? at temp? higher rpms?
also, i would recommend an oil pressure gauge first and for most, gotta make sure you at least have oil pressure. around 25 psi at idle is good, 40 psi around 2-2500 rpm is what your looking for.

another good easy thing to try is to pull the sump off and clean it out along with the oil lifter pipe/screen. that was wicked clogged in mine, and that will drop your oil pressure big time.

let me know if this helps and what you find out.

sounds good, remove sump, clean strainer and remove foreign material. hope that does it. Only thing is, there are no indicator lights going off. Starting knocking again like i said, then i revved the engine a few times, and what do ya know. The knocking stopped again. Almost like something sticking or clogged. Probably exactly what your saying. will let ya know

another kind of easy thing to try if that doesnt work is to bypass the oil cooler. that was another issue i had.

if you look down by the oil filter, there are two pipes that head to the passenger side of the radiator. unscrew those where they meet the radiator and run a length of 1/2 hose between them. if youre oil pressure is up where it should be then, the filter is clogged up too. i put a ton of carb cleaner and some compressed air through mine as a temporary fix.

Honestly it sounds like you have a slipped liner. The sound will often come and go with them.

You are best off doing it for the shortest possible time possible. It all depends on what you are doing with the car.
