theres one step to put it into 4wd.
1. turn on the car and go. its set up as a permanent 4wd so you cant change it. when you push the lever to the left, you lock the transfer case. dont put it in lock under normal driving conditions. this a lot of stress put on the transfer case and and you could damage it. |

you say "dont put it in lock unless under normal driving conditions". that does not make sense to me. did you mean to say "abnormal" driving conditions. meaning ice, snow, mud, crawling blah blah blah? another question. with the truck in the locked position (lever pulled to the left) does this need to be at any certain speed engauged and disengauged? our armada we can switch throughout the different ranges upto 40mph without issues. also is there any speed that i should not go above with it locked? |

Left/Right is CDL, Center Differential Lock.. this distributes power equally to your front/rear axle.. I usually keep it engaged at all times offroad... you should not run this under normal driving conditions where you have full traction, such as pavement, as the transfer case can bind up... but if its loose ground/offroad, you should engage it. You can engage this at any time while the car is in any gear.. I believe there was an 'upper limit', such as 35mph, but not sure.. I usually do it while stopped. forward/back -- this is your transfer case gearing.. it should remain in high for normal everyday driving.. while offroading (or towing) you can engage it into low gear.. this will provide a ton more low end torque. To engage this, put the transmission in neutral, and shift it forward. It sometimes help if the car is rolling slightly (under 5mph)... you'll first click into transfer case neutral, then after that is low gear. If it won't go into lock, the linkage may be seized, here is some info on how to fix it: http://home.twcny.rr.com/eeibooks/ro...codifflock.htm

okay well i tried it today and i still dont think im getting it into low or hi range. i can get the cdl over no problem but moving the the lever forwards or backwards it just dosent want to go.
after i have the cdl in the locked position i tried i dont know how many time to get it to go into low range and the lever moves maybe (what id guess) a 1/4" and clicks. then it just click right back out into the nuetral position. how far is the lever suppose to move forward and backwards? can anyone explain what im doing wrong? i seriously want to unscrew the shift knob slide my breaker bar over the lever and just reef on it to get it to go. thats probably not the best thing to do though if i have something wrong and thats not the reason its not shifting between hi and low. |

man i worked on it and worked on it, had mike walk me though some things and gave me some idea's, still nothing. i did get the cdl to transfer over to the lock position like butter though.
from what mike told me it sounds like it is stuck in the high range in the transfer case. which does make sense i suppose because if it was stuck in nuetral would i even be able to drive? from me taking about my center console, disconnecting the differental lock arm from the connecting rod, and checking it out from above (since you cant really see anything from below). the connecting rod that goes back WILL NOT MOVE. i have everything soaking right now and will be soaking overnight to see if anything breaks free. there is still things that still has me questionable though. from the position that it is in right now (which mike and i both believe is in hi range) i am able to push it forward just a tiny bit and it clicks. when i say tiny bit i mean very little maybe 1/3". now when it clicks it stays in that position its actually stays there but it really doesnt seem as though its in nuetral just by that small throw. it does not do this as far as going back into hi range that is why we think it is stuck in high already. im basically stuck i guess now in hi range. what are some of the disadvantages to this as far as torque delivery, driveablity, anything elese i guess? |

nope. the soaking did nothing except waste my time.
last night i tore everything back apart and attempted to yank the interlock solenoid but started to get hungry and diddnt finish it. i went back at it this morning got the damn solenoid out rtv'd the holding plate back into place and now i gotta take my bike to the parts store and get some axle grease for the cdl shift linkage and mechanism. well see if this helps oh yeah my tires just got here so im pretty stoked about that too im gonna try and get those on today as well ![]() |

Well, I guess you're running out of options. You may have to yank the whole thing and see what's up.
