Default Painting D1 Roof Satin Black?? Am I crazy!

What do you all think of that?? The paint is oxidizing up there, and I thought I should do something about it. There are also a few rust spots popping up around the alpine windows. Going back with original color is $$ EXPEN$IVE $$. I would also go with a hood black out to match the roof.

This is a silver D1........why oh why do I like silver paint!!!
This is the second silver car that has givin me trouble!

Default Roof Paint

Landy,
It doesn't cost but a few $$$ more to repaint it the same color, other then you should throw a clear coat on top of either color to prevent it fading out again too soon.
I have one the color of yors and I would stay with the factory color if I had to repaint. My other concern is that black will heat up the interior.
Good luck which ever way you go.

I'm curious as to why you might pick black for your roof color Landy96. Why not white or....? I remember the Series 109 I rode around in during the 60s had an aluminum extra skin over the roof that helped keep the inside cool, has anyone offered a similar 'skin' to fit the Disco I and II? Seems to me that it could even attach to the underside of those almost useless roof racks we got from the factory!

I would say you wouldn't if you live in Oklahoma.
But dude you live in Tejas. It's not like it gets hot enough down there or anything.
If you paint that black you could open a bakery in the back and cook bread during the mildly hot months of May, June, July, August, September you have down there!!!!111

Actually I think it would look pretty cool. Interesting concept.

OK OK I get the point..........It is not a good idea!!!! Thanks though for all of your input!! I guess I WAS crazy for thinking that!!! I suppose that I should just repaint it (avalon blue?) Paint is just so expensive for this Rover. If I do this, I am going to remove the Alpine windows/ load bars/ sunroofs too. It needs to be done right!!! Again THANKS!

Where are you getting the paint from anyway.

The thing about any automotive paint nine times out of ten its not really special paint its just the mix of colors to get the right tones. Granted it isnt easy but most if not all body shops have a guide for many of the makes and years of alot of vehicles. Alot of dealer bodyshops have computer controlled mixing devices that give exact amounts to get the right color.

And also too when you paint one body panel you have to blend it with the rest.

Trust me at the last Lincoln shop I worked at we had an awesome body shop. These guys knew their paints and colors and did a very good job at blending. I can pull a car apart but I cant paint it.

Working on cars is a science. Painting them is an art.

If you want to do it yourself I would just go the route and get something from a bodyshop that is capable if you really want to do it yourself but then you have to cover the vehicle up and everything.

If you want to pay for it just clean the rust spots yourself and prep the vehicle to get painted by a trustworthy body shop. but if you want to take out the alpine windows and sunroof instead of taping them off you will end up taking all of the interior trim off including the headliner.

all the pillar trim panels and the rear corner trim panels as well. Hope you got a big garage to store all the stuff as well.

My answer: Durabak. They make it in various colors, one of which I'm sure is bound to match the Disco's silver paint, or at least blend in better. At least next time you hit a branch or tree, it won't scrape you, you'll scrape it.

But then again, JMHO, my $0.02, opinions are like arseholes, etc.

My disco had some scratches and rust spots on the roof. To get it painted I got a bid of over $600. I got the top done with a spray on bed liner for $250. I love it. For some reason I can't upload the pictures. I will try again later.
