Default Parking Brake Cable Replacement

If nothing else, I always come to you guys with interesting stories. That said...

So a couple months ago, I'm driving home from work at about 3AM, roads are dead, etc. I'm doing about 65MPH on a highway, coming up on an intersection. The light turns green, I glance both ways, looks clear, so I hit the gas, and head through the intersection. About the time I'm 150 feet short of the light, some fool in a beat up old Camaro flies through the red light, and I'm about to T-Bone him. I stood on the brakes as hard as I could, and the truck braked surprisingly well for its weight/age, and I didn't hit him. However, while standing on the brakes, something "gave" in the pedal. I get to the next intersection, and go to hit the brakes, pedal goes straight to the floor. I drove the rest of the way home with only my parking brake working, so every time I'd come up to a stop, I'd just use the parking brake to slow down/stop. Worked quite well. I got home, and the next day replaced my right rear caliper, which had split completely in half, then kinda turned into powder.

So fast forward a couple months. I pulled up to a friend's house for a night of drinking, and turned the truck off, and yanked the parking-brake lever up. Problem is, the lever went up with no resisitance and broke a chunk off the center console. So, I'm assuming the parking brake cable broke. I've searched the forum for the last 20 minutes, and I can't find anything on replacing it. I also checked the Rave manual, and didn't get anywhere in there. Sooo... does anybody have a parking brake cable replacement thread/walkthrough?

You don't really need a walk through to replace the hand brake cable. It's very straight forward, especially if you get one from a wrecker where you can pull the part out yourself as you get to practice. The hardest part is not wrecking the ultra flimsy plastic console, but seeing as it's already broken........

The brake cable comes up through a rubber grommet (integral to the cable IIRC) to the hand brake leaver. Remove the pin holding the cable end to the leaver, pull the cable from underneath and through the floor. Remove cable from parking brake drum end as per service manual. IIRC there are two retaining clips that secure the cable at points along the T'case. Reverse to install.

I checked my service manual, and I can't find that in there anywhere, I'll probably tackle it this coming weekend, but anything I need to know about that bit?

Since there's so little about it in the Rave other than adjustment I can't imagine it being anything harder than for instance changing spark plugs. While your in the parking brake you might want to change out the shoes, probably the most overlooked maintenance item on any Rover.
