Default Pics!

heres some pics so you can see what ive been up to and know that i actually am working on my truck and im not some random guy wasting peoples time with questions

heres where it died, i barely made it to the top of the exit ramp

before i got my hands on it

now its shiny(er)

velocity stacks

this could be part of the problem, wish i would have checked that before i tore it apart but they told me the block was cracked so i was looking for a crack

oil pan, filter, and some other stuff removed

the water pump is new, but it had to come off too

its coming along nicely

front cover is kinda dirty, but i cleaned it up some

and theres my timing chain, thatl have to go

nice rusted headers, no visible damage has been found anywhere, taking the heads to shop to check for warpage as soon as i find a good one

Disco - sorry to ask "stupid questions" (I must be one of those "random guys") but why are you ripping the engine apart? What were the symptoms when she quit?

not a stupid question, all i meant in my original post was that basically i was hoping i would get more replies to my questions about my situation if i posted pics to show what was going on cause i havent been getting many replies to some of my posts. maybe cause no one knows me, maybe cause no one has anything to say. i dunno

im ripping it apart cause two shops both told me the engine was shot and i needed a whole new one because i had thrown a rod through the block or it was seriously cracked for some other reason. I figured if they were right it was worthless so i might as well look to see if they were wrong and possibly save the 4k or so to get an entire new engine put in.

she overheated a week before she died. i was driving on the intersate at 65 maybe 70 and it started to feel like it didnt have much power when i hit the gas, going up one hill was really hard so i pulled over and once i slowed down i noticed smoke was pouring out of the hood (coundnt notice before cause it was blowing away too fast on the interstate) it wouldnt crank and was towed to the dealership. they said they could tell it threw a rod cause of a bump in the intake manifold gasket. so acording to the experts it was shot.

Good luck man. Sorry to hear you had troubles. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for her and she was a project truck.

can you spin the crank? This would be a good way to find a snapped rod. The piston that doesnt move would be the culprit. I would do this before you go messing with the heads. If you threw a rod, you very well couldve damaged the cylinder wall/sleeve and you may be ahead if you find a used engine.

i checked the rods and they are all good, dropped the oil pan and can see them all in tact, felt to see if they were lose or anything and no. no bits and pieces in the oil pan either. took the valve covers off and turned it over and all valves move. took the heads off turned it over and can see all the pistons moving nicely. also checked each plug for spark and all are firing but some weaker than others. also i cleaned the coil pack from what it looks like in the pic, i should have checked before i cleaned on those black ones but didnt think about that at the time.
