Question Piston Problem

I OWN A 1996 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY THAT THE REAR CYLINDER ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE I BELIEVE HAS A BROKEN RING OR IT HAD A PLUGGED INJECTOR THAT CAUSED THE PISTON TO GET DAMAGED. THE CYLINDER WALL I SHOULD BE ABLE TO HONE IT OUT. LET ME SAY THAT WHEN IT WAS RUNNING, IT WAS RUNNING GREAT, WOULD CLIME A TREE IF YOU WANTED IT TO. ANYWAY, I FOUND A SINGLE PISTON THAT IS OUT OF A 2002 Land Rover Discovery II 4.0L V8, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THAT PISTON WILL FIT IN MY ROVER'S 4.0 ENGINE. I INQUIRED ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS THE PISTON AND HE REPLIED 'That's interesting, the cylinders I have measured 3-7/8", much larger than yours. I MEASURED THE CYLINDER WALL ACROSS AND IT WAS 3.323” I also measured a Range Rover 4.0 from 1997 which has the same measurements. This is measuring across the cylinder wall as well. Across the piston itself measures 3-11/16".'
SO NOW I'M REALLY CONFUSED, ISN'T A 4.0 L ENGINE THE SAME REGARDLESS OF THE YEAR? MY WIFE HAS TOLD ME THAT IF I DON'T GET IT RUNNING IN A COUPLE WEEKS SHE IS GOING TO DONATE IT TO THE KIDNEY FOUNDATION AND I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN. ANYBODY THAT COULD SHED LIGHT ON THIS I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE. OR SOMEONE THAT MAY HAVE A PISTON WITH THE RINGS JUST LAYING AROUND THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO SELL.

DESPERATE, WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO DO! ! !
