Howdy Yall! I have some questions about a 1997 Disco XD. I am hoping to purchase one in the next few days but how can I tell if it's the real deal? Are there any identifying markers besides the obvious yellow paint and black stripes? Is there a specific VIN series for these limited models? It looks to be in good shape but this will be my first LR and I don't know what to look for. The carfax report was clean but there is a 3 year gap from 2003 to 2006 with no information reported. This made me a little nervous. Should I be?
Any input is greatly appreciated! And thanks TerryS for your input. Sarah |

Maybe not much help but I got this bit from East Coast Rovers that I thought was kinda fun:
Discovery Information In other words, the XD is a regular Disco while yella' paint and bolt on stuff. Considering the price of all that aftermarket gear, it might be worth more than the Disco itself. How much are you paying for it? |

That picture is of a bona fide XD. You can tell by several features including the lack of roof bars.
There will be a metal Special Vehicles identification plate riveted to the radiator apron, with the contratc and serial number. Open the bonnet and look down, and you'll see it. There are a few 'fakes' out there, but I think the one you show is real. They do bring a premium, despite cloth seats. Make sure all the unique XD items are present. They are waterproof seat covers, XD spare wheel cover, and Black rims. Deduct some if any of that stuff is missing. Generally XD's bring a small premium. The Vin won't tell you if it's an XD, as the 500 made (250 to US) were spread out over 8 months. The most valuable are the 1996 pre-production ones used in several LR sponsored events. Eco Challange, and TREK, a dealer VS Dealer competition held in several areas, and final held in Georgia. Most (but not all) dealer Trek versions were 5 speeds. |

Thanks All! They are asking $4500. Reasonable? Is the missing info on the carfax anything I should worry about? I am really excited about it, but don't want to get my hopes up in case the deal falls through.
