Default Power surge????

I was driving to work this morning and all of a sudden everything lit up bright, the ac was blowing very hard, all he lights on the dash and radio got very bright and both of my headlights got so bright the blew. The power surge lasted about two minutes and it has happened twice before in the past week but in the daytime. Now my gas pump is whining loud. I noticed that right before it happened the MPH and RPM gauges stopped working for about ten seconds. I have no idea what this is but I am not driving this until I figure it out! ANY help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated

Bad alternator and/or voltage regulator.

You're lucky thats all that blew, you could have fried your entire electrical system which would have totaled the truck.
