Default Problem with starting

okay my 97 disco has thrown a new problem at me.

the first time this has happen was this afternoon when I was running late. I go out to the Disco and turn the key and nothing happened not even a single noise. Try to start it again and it trys to turn over, but did doesn't, after 3 tries it turned over and ran fine. Got to where I had to go. Disco sat for about 1 hour. Try to start it and it wanted to turn over, but didn't. Started right up on the second try. Drove down the road. It sat for about a nother hour and when I went to start it this time it started right up like nothing happened. Any clues on where to start looking????????

You probably didn't put it in Park all the way (you know, like sex, you gotta put it in all the way not half way in).

If the vehicle is not in Park it will not turn the engine/starter. It happens to my 96 sometimes and all I do is push the shifter all the way forward. Good luck.

Sounds like you are about to go buy a battery. I would suggest you go to your favorite shop and have them charge and then do a load test on your battery and alternator. Also check all your grounds and connections for loose or dirty connections.

Well you know the women cannot handle my full length, so I have to go easy on them

Really though I would have never thought of it not being in park all the way. In addition I am sure I am due for a battery soon and will look into that as well. Anybody have any thoughts on the best battery to get for the Discovery?

It is not an issue of being in or out of park, there are no grey areas, so don't worry about that.
As for the battery, if you go wheeling alot, go for a gel tytpe battery like a Optium Red or Yellow top, they will take alot more abuse the a Die Harder.

Now that Mike mentioned the battery, is it possible that the terminals on your battery are dirty? Have you cleaned them recently? Just a thought.
