Default Question about Springs

Hay what's up fellas..Finally I managed to get some of issues with my disco taken care of. New rotors, pads and wheel bearings!!! The price was not too bad $360..However something really p'ed me off when they bought it to my attention. Come to find out that the reason why my truck is sagging..is that on the passg. side there is a different set of springs installed that are smaller lol...Only me right? They quoted me $130 per spring. $209 installed does that sound about right? Once that is done then finally I can take it off roading!
Thanks

$130/spring is a bit much IMO. how old are your springs? have you considered aftermarket springs? when i was taking off the stock springs on our white disco the front passenger side spring was smaller than the front driver side spring. i guess thats how it should be??

Boogiedown - if you want to stay with a stock ride, get some OME (Old Man Emu) springs - I think they are around $80/each from EE. If you want to do a slight lift, go with BB from DAP or RTE springs. Either way, it will be cheaper than OEM (original). I am sure there are plenty of guys in CO Springs that would be willing to throw them on for you for a cse of beer.

Okay so that is normal for the pass. front spring to be a little smaller? I would like to upgrade to raise it a little. But I am mainly erked cause it has a slight lean. But...I also know that I need a new tire on the front pass. It's pretty worn down..But I thought it wouldn't make it lean??

Buy 2 new OME springs and invite a couple friend to come over and help you install the.
Make sure no to buy just the pass. spring or when installed the drivers side wil be sagging.

x2 on what Mike said....to combat the lean, EE will sell you a "matched" pair of springs. Matched means they are the same size/rate. Discos have that lean to compensate for driver's weight and so forth. The more tired the springs as they age, the more prominent the lean. So, yeah, get a matched pair. If you buy them from someone else, make sure you ask for a matched pair.

Before you go buy springs, go to https://www.expeditionexchange.com/ome/
read up on OME springs and decide what you want to accomplish and pick accordingly.
You can order then on line and have someone install them if you don't find a local shop that stocks the specific shocks you need. Remember E.E. will sell you matched shock where most shops won't.
Don't forget to consider replacing your shocks at the same time.
Good luck,
Mike

Default Matched Or Not Matched

I personally believe the matched springs theory as a complete and utter hoax.

The theory that OME designs the springs to compensate is true. When you take that thought process further it really depends on how the truck is set up. i.e. Batteries, what is carried and where it is carried. Spacers and shims are there for the truly anal to get the truck flat.

Charles at www.roveraccessories.com is currently building my truck up. I brought up the matched springs theory with Charles and he explained it to me that way. When Land Rover wants a truck built they go to Charles.

My .02 cents and that's exactly what it's worth.

I disagree. It is not a hoax. The Discos do lean. Yes, it is to compensate for driver, passengers, accessories, load, whatever....but that's just it...it's the stock springs that are set up that way. If you are upgrading to a better than stock spring...or anything for that matter...why would you put in something that is only comparable to stock when for the same price, you can get something better. Places like EE sell matched springs so you don't have any lean. I know what you're thinking...with matched springs and a loaded truck there will be leaning b/c that wasn't taken into consideration with matched springs on an empty truck. Well, short answer, yes it has. Matched springs are usually springs that have a heavy load rating. Therefore, with the heavy load rating, they can accomodate the different load setups one might place on their Disco. I don't know if I explained it right but you should get the gist of it.

To otherwise prove it is not a hoax...take a standard stock Disco and there will be a lean to it. Load it up and it MIGHT level out. Take the same Disco with matched springs and there will be no lean to it. Load it up and there will be no lean to it b/c the springs most likely used are load bearing springs.

IMHO of course. If I am wrong, someone is more than welcome to post facts and I will change my opinion.
