Question quick which thermostat is used on 1996 D1? Button or the egg shaped one?

Hi there from Adam in Nyc

Had the D1 overheat last night and I can not for the life of me find the thermostat. Is it on the passenger side of the engine compartment under the ovesrflow reservior or is it on the top of the engine block? I got to repair this out on the street so I want to make a mininium impact of dropped fluid, car and body related.

Help! I went to my local autoshop(autozone () and all they had was the button style that goes into the engineblock. Looked online and all I could find was for the 1998 D1 which uses the external egg shaped thermostat .

Help!

It's round, 88C. Goes into the FRONT of the intake manifold, where you top hose connects.

Dont go with autozone, stick with AB, If they are wrong then it will fit and wont overheat but will throw a check engine light on.

basically a 0125 not enough time for a warmup.

I will let you know.

Will get to it in the morning, weather and the Land Rover gods permitting.

FYI, AutoZone did a great job helping me out in store and on their excellent website, PepBoys don't keep Land Rover parts in stock (everything is special order), and RS Strauss carries some parts by getting their stock from JC Whitney and then repricing to retail.

Ouch.

BTW, AutoZone carries four different manufacturers for their thermostats and label them at OEM or alternate temperatures (OEM is 192F) and for fast-acting properties. A lot of info at their terminals for their sales staff (I think it is derived from allData).

Question Changed the thermostat but now something else popped up....

Where can I get the top plastic radiator plug for the LR D1 found on the passenger side next to the hoses? Found it broken as well.

Plenty of 96 Discos did that, or still do that from a PROM program error.

Just a heads up.

The Top threaded plug is pipe thread. A $50 Brass plug from a hardware shop, with some Teflon Tape works outstanding.
