Alright... I dont have a service manual for my 97 Disco and need to remove the altinator. I did have it on disk but, cant find it.
After looking at the set up for 10 minutes I figured out that the 2 bolts on the altinator WONT just remove it. Below the altinator is what looks like a belt tentioner. Any tips for removal would be great or, if someone has it available in PDF "FANTASTIC" |

I dont have the Disco1 manual handy.. but if its similar the D2... first remove the cables from the battery... then you need to remove the belt from it (put a wrench on the tensioner and push it to the right to loosen it).. then undo the two bolts attaching the alternator to the bracket.. mine was pretty wedged in there, so I just put a bar under the alternator and popped it out, then take the two wires off of the back of it and it should be completely out.

Yep, sounds like its just like the d2 except theres three wires. The lead from the battery has a nut, the second wire has a nut that is attached to the wire with some kind of bracket thing, and the third wire just pulls off. Also if you dont have a manual make sure to take note of how the belt is supposed to fit back on. shouldnt be a problem since you dont need to take it all the way off, but you never know.
