Default Replacing the Shift Indicator assembly

Hello everyone, I have a 97 Discovery and I am trying to replace the Shift Indicator assembly. I have figured out how to remove the console, switches etc, but how does the shift knob seperate from the shaft so I can put it through the new unit? I have taken off the top of the shifter knob (the cap), and have found no answers. Please advise?

Thanks, Phil
