I have a 1998 Discovery with 102,000 miles. Within the past week I have noticed the truck is rolling forward more than usual when I put it in park.
Is this a sign that the brakes are starting to go? I have no trouble braking while driving, it is this wacky slight rolling of the truck when initially put in park. Any ideas? PS: This forum has been awesome. Helped me diagnosis a VSS issue and ignition cylinder problem. Thanks!!!!!

Not the brakes. The are off when your foot is off the pedal. There is a pin in the transmission that holds the rig in place when in Park. Do you use the parking brake?
There is some slop in your drivetrain (normal) but if you're noticing it increase there could be something loosening up. I'm sure someone smarter than me will tell you exactly what.

Here's some reading for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parking_pawl
I trust that when you park, you also use the handbrake, which locks the rear tail shaft and therefore does not act on your brakes.

When it continues rolling after it's in park...then you have a problem.
