With the disco 1 definately go the diesel the only electrical component on the motor is the fuel stop solenoid. As for the swivel pin housings if they are oil filled, check them,if there is oil on the floor under them, check them, change over to grease if you don't want to check them. My daughters boyfriend has a toyota celica a year or so ago I saw the left hand C.V joint rubber was split,so I told him, yesterday he told me his left hand C.V joint has to be replaced and is going to cost$300 who is at fault, crap car or slack maintainance.

point taken, however if you are going to go wheeling and need to do the mods, then you'd have some sort of mechanical background or know how to do the mods. Once you come back from your wheeling trip, after awhile things will break down and will require mainence. take it to dealer? not a chance. fix it yourself.
most people that don't know or don't want to fix their own trucks/ cars will not want to do any serious wheeling as they don't want to brake anything. and it's those types that should lease. there are always exceptions though
guess that was the point i was trying to make.

I can't fix my own Disco, and people laugh at me for having it and not 4 wheeling in it. I always reply that I couldn't afford to 4 wheel in it. I still wouldn't lease, as now I've made all of my payments and own it. The jury is still out however if I'll be saving money now that I own it, or are repairs for normal wear and tear going to even out with a car payment and better yet save me money. It hasn't yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I'm going to go out and buy one of those code readers, and maybe start reading up on mechanics. I wouldn't be able to get through this without all of the folks here for support! Love my Disco, Thanks, Michele
