FWIW - the folk who did the Rhino Lining in the Beast stapled the heck out of my headliner with no adverse effects. I left most of the staples in while I think about a solution for the sag...

That depends on your features. I have tons of wires up there dual sunroofs, rear A/C controls, HomeLink and interior lights. They are pretty much run in a harness though so surface area wise you only have probably about a 1% chance of hitting one just depends on how unlucky you are.

I can help in this area.

Staples are not likly to go all the way through your Headliner board, even with overhead AC their are additional wires but most of the wire harness is bound together in a tight loom.

I would recommend if you dont want a fancy new headliner to:

Remove the existing cloth material , use a nylon scrub brush and remove the old foam backing and be done with it. Doing this while the board is still in the car will be a nasty mess.

This way their is no chance to staple into wires etc.
