second battery on a LR - Land Rovers Only

Has anyone installed a second battery before on Disco 1? If so where did you mount it?

Same place , just move some of the stuff around. You will have to decide the type of batterys (Optima or otherwise)and which charging system you want installed.

For a D1, I think the best place id by the air box, easy fit and balances out the additional weight.

Disco Mike: After looking at the pictures I agree that the airbox location is the best place.

Why would one want to install a second battery?

Hi Phototone,
There are several reasons to have a second battery. My primary reason is that I have a winch that draws a lot from the battery.
With the proper battery management system connected you can use 1 battery for auxiliary equipment and keep the primary battery for running primary systems or you have the ability to run the batteries in parallel if desired. The other reason for me is that I run a tremendous amount of other electronic equipment (2 1000 watt amps, 4-7 inch monitors, 2 DVD players, 1 DVD/GPS player, a CB and a 400 watt inverter) that I would prefer to to keep on the secondary battery.

After looking at this I am thinking of using the Blue Sea Management system, the Luna runs $375.00 as apposed to this system that runs $150.00.

I realize there are differences in the systems but for the price I think it is a good trade off.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Front of airbox is ment for Aux battery, you can actually get a 110ah defender battery in there by moving the power sterring resovoir around.
Over here Dual battery's are one of the first things done to a vehicle for running fridges and lights and for back up starting as you tend to be a long way from help over here. Sure power smart solinoid is the best way to go, we install these all the time at work, you should be able to get it pretty cheap over there to as it's a Yank product. You could also go to an ARB store and get a "kit" with every thing ready made to just plug and play(for a D1).

Thank you for the info, I spent time today researching the Sure Power solution and I it looks like a great product, I also came across another solution called "Hellroaring" I have listed the links below that show installation and pricing info and wonder what you think about this. I have not made any decision on what one to go with so the verdict is still out on which one I will go with.
I did have a question about the installation on the second battery. In looking at the area in front of the air box, how do you move the input tube in front of the airbox? Or where do you move it to?
