Thumbs down Stalls out and won't restart:

My problem begins in April 07. I drove 55 miles of a 100 mile drive and stopped at a rest area, turned the disco off and returned 5 minutes later. It misfired in the intake a couple of times but wouldn't restart. Had it towed home ( $187). The following Saturday I started it right up and drove around the block. It stalled at about 20 MPH and I pulled to the curb. That night I started it and got it to my garage. I changed the fuel filter and over the next several weeks it worked fine (in town only). Last month I drove it 100 miles on a Monday, drove in town daily and drove it back on Friday. On the way back it seemed weak and didn't downshift when I tried to pass. I parked at the house and was planning to leave again in a few minutes. When I tried to start it it did the same couple of misfires in the intake and then just cranked over. Last weekend I changed the fuel filter again. The old one had black flecks in it, semi magnetic but smudged like grease when touched. With the new filter on I drove about 2 miles and shut it off. Got a tow home to try again. This weekend,I checked the new filter and pumped out a couple gallons with the fuel pump (clean gas). I disconnected the stepper and it idles about 1100 after a bit. Reconnected the stepper and disconnected the throttle position sensor and it went up to 2700 then down to 2400 and held steady.
I just walked home from my latest test drive. It was running fine around the block until it got to normal operating temperature, and then it stalled out in the street. Sometime tonight or tomorrow I will go over and drive it home. What do I do next???

Do you have a check engine light?

I couldn't imagine the ECU being clueless after all of this is happening.

Possible cause could be the fuel pressure regualtor switch or a week fuel pump. I don't believe either will throw a code.
Mine was the fuel pressure multi-function switch in my 97 had a bad connection. It did almost exactly what your is doing.

Try testing the fuel pressure.
