Hey guys, my car's been sitting infront of my apartment for the past week or two, until I got it looked at by a shop who does limited LR stuff. The guy said it was a button in the engire compartment that you mash which is related to the security system. He unhooked the wiring and showed me that it was a bit burned on the end , pointing towards a short somewhere. I drove it home from the shop but when I was almost back, it stalled in the middle of the road. I opened the hood, mashed it down, and then drove off with it idling extreamly low at some points and almost dieing at others. I have a 3.9L 95 Discovery. Does anyone have any suggestions, or comments that might be useful?

The only button that I know of in the engine bay that you can 'mash' down is the Inertia Switch, which shuts off the fuel supply to the engine in the event of a smash or if you drop into a deep hole whilst off road.

is it mounted on the firewall on the passenger side in the engine bay? It has a round rubber top casing on it.

As it seems that this switch/button (Inertia Switch) is the cause of your problems, you need to replace it, however, it would be advisable to find out what caused it to short out in the first place. Perhaps just a loose connection.
