My disco has been sitting for a year without use. Time to revive it. First thing's first - it doesn't start. The starting problem was the reason to write it off a year ago and it looks like I have the same problem as MuddyRangeRover in the below thread:
HELP: Rover Won't start I cleaned the battery connections but the car still would not start. Just a single click when I turn the key over. So my next step is to clean the wiring on the starter and check the starter relay. The only problem is that I can't find the starter and don't know which is the starter relay and where it is. Can anyone help? A diagram would help. Thanks! If none of this works I will buy a new starter, just don't want to jump the gun before troubleshooting. |

I used a new battery so it's not the battery and probably the starter but I don't know where it is. Any help?
Also, how do I tell if the solenoid is to blame and not the starter?

Seriously the starter isn't hard to find as it acts directly on the fly wheel, there for logically speaking it must be between the engine and tranny, i.e. the bell housing. If you crawl under you should be able to see it.
My borthers 90 V8 used to have starter motor issues, well it occasionally jammed, a whack with a hammer or other heavy object was usually enough. If the starter motor is clicking, then I would guess it either isn't getting enough power, or is unable to turn the motor over. I would highly advise you buy something like a Heynes manaul or service manaul if you plan on working on the vehicle at home. Heynes manuals are cheap and useful.

The problem is that the truck is parked in a parking lot 30 min away from my home. I have the time to go and see the truck once a week. Saturday was able to go check out the starter at 8 pm - it was dark and and freezing outside so I didn't get a good look to find the starter.
I did buy a manual on a CD from AB but it wasn't sufficient. Haynes is definitely on the list. I hope to climb under the truck on Wednesday and take a better look. Thanks for the help, I will let you know how it goes.
