Default Steering colum play

Hey all,


Where the steering shaft comes through firewall to gear box without steering wheel locked how much play shpuld there be?? I can move mine slightly..Is that normal or should I replace it?? Let me know your thoughts

Mike,

I have the famous DEATH JITTER When I hit a bridge joint or frost heave steering wheel shakes badly.. Thinking about panhead/radius arm bushing up front Any other suggestions Steering stablizer is new ,tire and shocks less than 10000 mile let me know

Eric,
How about the pre load on your swivel joints?
Other then that, check the tie rod ends and all arms, also the adjustment on your steering box.
If the stabilizer is very old will will not help control your problem, first of course is find the looseness.

That is a big job and if it were the problem, a mechanic would need to do it.
Why not find a small Rover shop and let them take a look.
