Default Stock bumper winch mount

I'm getting kinda sick of chasing after companies for a winch bumper for my Disco. Either they don't want my money or it's the fact that I stopped showering in an attempt to make the rain go away... I don't know or care

I plan on investing in a welder soon and I was looking out the window at the stock bumper on the disco. Is there any reason why the center "U" section couldn't be reinforced to fit a winch and mounting plate? Afterwards, I could simply cut the sides off the bumper and weld on either tube or 1/4" box tube to finish the sides off a la Rovertym style.

My real concern is that the bumper mounts might not be strong enough to handle the stress of a winch pull, unless that was reinforced too... At this point I've accepted that my truck is barely road legal so might as well take the final step

It would take a lot of work, even some of the so called winch bumpers need extra support or they will twist some when winching. Consider making your own bumper from scratch, a lot of people have and or are doing it.

That's part of the plan. What I like about using the stock one as a base is that I know it's gonna fit on the frame without having to calculate and fabricate new brackets and sleeves.
