Default Strange vibrations when engine is off

I recently bought a used 96 Discovery and have had no problems for weeks. But a day ago I turned off the engine and parked, and felt a strange vibration on the driver's side. With the engine off, some component continues to run. It vibrates through to the driver's seat and sounds almost like a fan. I thought it would shut off after a few minutes, but it stayed on for hours and drained the battery completely. Had to jump the car, and it was fine for awhile but died again. I replaced the battery and the car starts fine and drives fine but when I turn it off, that part keeps running. I'm not sure if it's an electrical problem or maybe the alternator? I've disconnected the battery while I'm not using it, and will take it into repair shop on Monday but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or advice?

McC0mb: Did the previous owner replace the original viscous (mechanical) fan with electric fans? The electric fans would be attached to the engine side of the radiator - if they are there, it is possible the control unit is malfunctioning and making the fans run non-stop. There are other electric motors (eg ABS unit) that also could be running all the time...

Think it might be related to ABS. Light won't shut off. Thanks!
