Unhappy tailgate lock problem on 95 Disco

When I use the central locking system, the acuator does the right thing but there is no friction on the mecahnical part of the tailgate lock to keep in in either of the up of down positions. Result, I need to use the key.

The side doors have a definate "click" into position so I guess something has fallen off the mechanism.

Any ideas out there? I would be really appreciative ...

Mine does this too, I'm guessing it's some sort of engagement spring that's missing. I'm going to try to get the necessary pieces from Will Tillery this week, I'll let you know what fixes it.

Thanks Felix,

I'll look forward to your findings. My guess was a spring but after much searching on the internet I found no useful information.

The entire tailgate seems to have more than enough problems - the subwoofer plastic moulding is badly damamged at most fixing points and the the speakers distort, so I guess the amp is bust, too. The wiper had stopped working and the jetwash was blocked. At the moment the wipers are working again and the wash will be fine when I have replaced the jet thingy ...

This all started by fixing the front-door window regulators and I thought "lets have a look at the back ..."

Next project - check the electrics to the rear door window regs which are firmly off (thankfully in the UP position!). Good job I have a toolkit!

Thanks Felix - I'll check it out. I am based in the UK so postage should be OK.
