Is there a throttle body? - Land Rovers Only

Here is a dumb question.(Back in the day my teachers always said, "Their are no dumb questions.") Is there a throttle body on a 1997 Disco? I can find no reference to one!

well there has to be one or there would be carbs. my best quess with out looking at an engin would be that its at the end of the intake tube

It is not necessarily a throttle body, the butterfly valve for the accelerator, is fixed in the ciruclar opening which is part of the top portion of the intake plenum. So it isn't really a throttle body, but it is. Sounds confusing.

Let's put it this way, most throttle bodies seen on most fuel injected cars and trucks are removable for service, replacement, etc. Ours on our rover motors, are not.

Not a dumb question. Actually there is a throttle body on all fuel injected Rovers, which is used to regulate the air flow into the intake manifold. Are you having a problem with yours?

So that is what the Brits call it! I am not haveing trouble but thought i would clean it. What is the best way to clean it? I suppose their is no way to upgrade it either?

That is what the Americans call them too.
To clean it, remove the air intake hose, with the engine not running, spray all over the innside of the tube and butterfly, open the butterfly and do the same on the back side of the plate. I find if it is really dirty, I use a tooth bruch to break up all the build up, spray it some more then wipe out as much of the residue you can and close her up. May be a little hard to restart depending on how much carb spray you use.
Are you going to do an induction cleaning also to help decarbon the engine?

I suppose there is an actual removable throttle body, but I am not quite totally sure, cause mine is not detachable. The butterfly is part of the intake in a cirular opening.

I could be real wrong, unless mine is the biggest throttle body I have ever seen that is a peice of the intake plenum.
