Default Those dang leaking sunroofs

Well.....after awhile you just get tired of the leaks and getting rain on inside the rig....because there are plans for a much different rack in the future..... They were sealed once and for all.... SILICONE.....GIT-R-DONE!!!!!

Funrover - yah, I don't get what the problem is with LR sunroofs but there must be some 'design flaws'. I've had over a dozen cars (1st was a 1950 Austin) & trucks with sunroofs and none of them ever caused any serious problems, so why all the trouble with these? Our Disco has no sunroof because the MCL salesman back in '96 wouldn't let me buy one with a sunroof!
One option the factory should have offered was the old extra layer of (aluminum) roof as was found on the series trucks - it helped keep the interior cooler, but of course, never leaked. I suspect you are smart to seal those big holes up for good.

yeah I'm about on my way to doing the same. they don't open very far anyway and have ruined my headliner!! Do you put silicone on the inside of the track system and then shut the sunroof and then seal the outside as well. Or did you just put it on the outside? Have a friend that does body work - thinking of just having him take the damn thing out and weld in a piece of sheet metal. Wonder if a window place could custom make and install a huge piece of glass in its place?

Actually, using a good piece of plexi-glass would be a great alternative to seal it. It's cheap, easy to cut, and is pretty damn strong.

Yup...opened it...ran a nice thick bead....shut it.... ran another bead.... took a bit of silicone but it should be done once and for all now!

The style on my RRC doesn't leak and it is totally different style..... I have only heard problems on the disco's!! But it seems to be common!

rrc's just start to wear down. my sunroof goes really slow and makes a sound and/or pops the track. lr never made good sun/moon roofs (after thought). but my rrc is 13 yrs old and i guess it's a long time. i think its my motor going? were does the leak come from on the discos? i have heard alot of owners w/ the same problem. r the tubes that drain out to the back of the disco clogged and the h2o has to go some where? i heard of someone that found out that was a promblem on their disco. i think they said the tubes r under the headliner. just a thought. i do not know much on the disco, my sis had a 97 for sometime.
