Default Throttle body cleaning. Disco now idles higher

I cleaned then crap outta of my throttle body with carb cleaner and alot of black debris was coming out. My truck now idles a little higher and it feels very responsive to the petal it idles higher in park and lower at drive or 3rd gear is this normal or is the disco breathing better.

BTW I was searching on here and came across using water (h20) as a valve cleaner something about carbon dissolves in water. does that work if so would it be safe for me to try it.

DiscoMike anybody

before the cleaning the truck was at 1000 rpm

now it's like at 1500 rpm. is this a sign the truck is idling better.

It is not normal for the idle to increase, unless sometime back, you had idle problems and instead of cleaning the t/body first you reset the idle. If that were the case, yes the idle would go higher and would need to be adjusted down.
As for the water and cleaning carbon, there used to be water injector units you could install on your truck that would with time clean the cylinder area and valves, but this was a gradual process, not simply a mater of poring water into the intake.

In my experience, the biggest carbon build-up problem is on the exhaust valve stems. Most 'combustion chamber cleaners' work on the piston tops, intake valve stems and heads of the valves with the exhaust valve stems not cleaning up much. I doubt that water injection would make much difference.
If your head gasket leaks coolant into the cylinders on the other hand, it might clean everything up but I have never checked for that effect. Has anyone ever noticed a cleaning affect on exhaust valve stems by a leak?
I suppose a direct way to clean exhaust valve stems might be to remove the exhaust manifolds and get in that way but it would be a hell of alot of work...

You are right, a coolant leak into a cylinder will really clean things up, just like new.

Even the exhaust valve stems? If it does, then the water injection route is worth investigating... Has anyone gone the water injection route in a Disco - what's are the other benefits?

I was under the impression that H20 / Methanol injection systems only worked with superchargers and maybe turbos too. I looked into these when I had my Supercharged Tacoma but I went with a 7th injector kit instead.
I may be wrong...
Look at urdusa.com and

Yes, the water/methanol injection kits on your link look 'over-the-top' for my stock normally asperated 4.0 engine. I'll just stick with Seafoam cleaning.

Water/methyl will clean an engine. It does take a litle time though, but it comes very clean.

Also using Chevron gas with techron is a proven way to keep an engine clean.. its a great additive!!

Dude, you only did half the job. You should have cleaned the throttle body, washed out the hosen coming to and fro the air filter, clean/change the air filter, add the Techron, add good gas, reset the ECU and take it for 30 miles so it can adjust to the changes. I would also change the spark plugs, inspect/change any spark wires, make sure the little tips on the top of the plugs are on securely as well. If you ever see that little jitter when the engine is running, like a shudder, sometimes it is those stupid screw-on tips that are loose.

Finally, inspect and inflate the tires the way you want and hit the pavement or soil.
