As discussed in a previous thread, I have a coolant leak. So I order from Atlantic British. But it has been a week and they haven't shipped it yet. So I called the dealer. Dealer told me I need both the gasket and seal, for 45$. The gasket from A. B. was only 9 bucks and they don't even have a seal listed. Searched around for front cover/timing cover seals and can't find mention of one anywhere. Anyone have an opinion? Is there is a seperate seal for the front cover? Thanks

Have you tried calling AB about the seal? I have always had good luck when talking with them about parts and have never had to wait for parts, but then again I am only 1 hour south of them. Is the dealer talking about the oil seal?? If so you shpould also be able to get a front oil seal from AB. I know they sell the seal with the timing chain kit.

The timing cover gasket from AB is junk....Make sure you buy a genuine one from dealer or RN. It has the extra bead of silicone built-in to the gasket. Seals up real nicely without having to use extra silicone or sealants.
The front cover seal is here: http://roverparts.com/ProductList.cf...Number=ERR6490 Strange that AB couldnt find this??? |

I just called AB. Got it sorted. Thanks for the help.
Sven, you say the gasket from AB is crap huh? It's already been sent, is it really that bad? Should I go ahead and buy another one from the dealer?

Well, since you already have it....use it with some Hylomar to help seal it.
If you dont feel like messing around with adding hylomar, then buy the genuine gasket. I think the price difference isnt too bad. |
