Default Trail riding in a 95 Disco, mud, water!!!

I have a 95 Disco that I am using to go trail riding. In these trails that are in NJ there is a lot of mud and water that I will have to go through. My question is to protect the distributor and coil in the front is there a grease or spray to cover the wires with? Also anything that you guys do already to prep your disco for mud and water.

Thanks

There is a lot you need to do if your going to go splashing around. Although these trucks are good offroad, they dont like too much water in the engine compartment or at all for that matter. You need to seal off your ECM/ECU(located pass side, rear engine compartment.) maybe get a snorkel and run breather lines up. get di-electric grease and put it on all the connectors. Much more should be done but if your just going to wade through water, you should be ok. if you're going balls to the wall, we will see you in more threads..... Good luck, have fun

A stock truck is only good for 20 inches of water. Find a bypass.

not a problem, i miss jersey. I had to move to the most boring location on planet earth - - illinois for family issues. the only trails here are through corn fields. Me and a bunch of guys build a terrain park for quads though. thats the most off road i get. I cant wait to get back to the east and show my disco some real shit.

Come to Kentucky. The trails and scenery are second to none. Depending on where in Illinois you are, your not too far away.

I am not 100% sure but I think the 95 disco has the ECM under the passenger seat not out under the hood. On a 96 I know it is out under the hood on the right side (passenger).

A good quality coil wire with a tight fitting silicon boot would be my thought on the coil. If you are truly having issues with moisture on the coil you might try silicone on the outside of the area of concern.

I agree that the breather tubes are a concern for the diffs. Not only should they be lengthened but often the stock ones get clogged and cause issues as well. Water in the diffs can cause costly issues.

When going through water technique is also important - - I use steady pace creating a "bow wake" this seems to work for me. I would not test the deapth of an area by driving through it - scout on foot first. I've heard of guys doing a lot of things to wade their trucks but the bottom line is a gas motor will not do well in deeper water. IMO Snorakls on gas engines are more for dust & looks than water.

I would suggest when you are done playing the water you should check all fluids and wheel bearings if you spend more than just breif moments in the water.
