Default Transmission Fluid Determination and Using Proline Filter and gasket set

Could anyone give me a guide to whether its safe to change my transmission fluid? i bought used at 132,500 and everything shifts fine, but, i would like to change the transmission fluid, so that i can have a service interval at my knowledge, and preventive maintanence. ive had the land rover dealer tell my i shouldnt change it, but i look at it as a way to make me buy a new car, theyve shafted me a couple times on parts anyway, and an import repair garage based on fluid determination, that its probably safe to do... its an iffy decision that could be catastrophic, tranmssion failure from the new fluid .
and thought about buying the proline transmission filter and gasket set. anyone used the proline filter and gasket kit?

if the fluid is really dark and burned, it is probably best to just leave it in there. Flushing it with clean fluid will probably make the clutch plates inside start slipping more and eventually lead to total failure. The grit in the fuild would be actually helping the frictions plates get grip. But, then again, if its that dark, its only a matter of time before it completely goes out.
On the other hand if its red or has a very slight tinge of brown to it, it probably wouldn't hurt to change it.
