Default truck doing werid things..need help

im having some weird electrical problems......1997 D1

1. sometimes when i start the truck it has a rough idle, sometimes it idles way too high, and then other times i have to press the gas as soon as i turn the key and hold my foot on the gas to hold RPMs or it will die. so in other words when im in stop and go driving im using both feet ....not cool

2. sometimes when i try to start the truck nothing happens. no lights no nothing. ive learned if i flip the headlights on and off once the truck will then start up. when i flip the headlights i usually hear a clicking under the glove department like if its relays clicking off and on.

3. no the headlights don't aways work. i have to hold the level back with the brights on to see at night. but if i fiddle with the level sometimes they come on.

what ive done trying to fix it.....

1. ive replaced all the plugs and wires.
2. replaced TPI last Feb 06
3. recently replaced steppor motor
4. had altinator checked and alt. is fne but the machine said check wiring??..hmm any suggestions on that.

so im really stumped with this so if anyone can help that would be great

try cleaning the throttle plate and or checkng the pcv hoses for collasping.

and the headlights could be a bad switch or bad connections at the headlites, might have to have new connections soldered on.

Our 96 D1 was idling strangely - very low sometimes - and other electrical systems including the alarm system seemed to be 'different'. Turned out the battery (over 6 years old) was giving only about 10 volts. New battery and all was well.

my 97 is full of electric bugs!!!
first time to do is to check clean all connections in the engine compartment fuse box!!! I even had to put star washers under the terminals to get good connections. Does you radio have a loud buz to it? If mine starts buzzing loud you can bet it will start missing and stalling! its real wild in rain!!!

yeah it has to be a bad connectoin someplace.....i think it tied to my headlights though.

i have a new plentum chamber and new vacuum hoses so im pretty sure my problem doesn't lie there....plus i have a 3 yr old optima battery....i haven't heard many people saying those go bad in 3 yrs
