Cool A"urge for purge"(starting saga)

I have a question hopefully one of you brainiacs can help me out with . I keep trying to figure my problem out (3 crank starting) without wasting money on stuff that doesnt need to be done. While putting aside moneys for injectors down the road.Ive been reading PDF manuals and what ever else i can find on the web.Anyways I was told when I bought My 96 disco (looking at the engine and noticing the canister of charcoal)that this was the purge valve & it connected to nothing But while going through pdf it said its connected to a multiplug - on my 96 I cannot find a plug for it. I'm really starting to wonder if this may play a part into it not starting . I appreciate any help in this area! Thanks Kirk

Go to the basics, have you replaced your fuel filter?
Have you tried checking the fuel pressure in the morning before you start the engine and after it starts, you should also check the fuel pressure once the engine has warmed up both at idle and at around 2000 RPM's.
You may have a bad pressure relief valve in the pump not allowing the fuell to stay up in the rails.

If the purge vale wasn't connected to the Intake, or stuck open, it COULD cause a lean condition. That COULD cause a hard start.
