just canceling out things to figure out y my engine won't start right. i guess its not the valves, its not the timing cause i don't have a distributor, and i got the battery tested its good. I guess i need to check the connections. i just don't know exactly which ones.

Normally yes,but it depends how much was taken off the head face. There is a proceedure to measure lifter preload and shims are available to offset the removed metal.Depending on whats been done it is possible that the valves are being held off their seats causing low compression and poor starting.

You're in Springfeild....I'm in St Louis.

Perhaps a road trip is in order, a fresh set of eyes could help.

Dont forget your basics. Gasoline engines need 5 things to run.

1)Air
2)Fuel
3)Spark
4)Compression
5)Timing.

One, or more isn't there. Compression is a easy check witha comression gauge. Fuel, Pressure is easy, and a noid light will at least tell you if the injectors are being asked to turn on.
Air....Make sure it can get IN your engine, but dont forget getting OUT.
Spark is a easy one to confirm.

Timing is set with your crank and cam sensor.... And, its uncheckable with a scan tool with live data stream. BUT dotn forget, if your timing chain isnt right, it cant do anything about it. Before I hunted down a timing concern, I would check the other 4 much easier, and more likely candidates.

Did you change the lifters. They can be a pain to get oil back through them. When I replaced the cam and lifters I could not get them to prime properly with cold thick oil. Make sure that you prime the system by using an electric drill to the oil pump for 5 minutes or more.

As previously stated, you can get shims to reset the height, but this would usually only be needed if your seats have been recut low and your valves are also warn down. This can happen with a head job if things are pushed to the limits of servicability.

Noid lights are basicly LEDS you can plug into the plug for your injectors to see if the signal is getting there.

Heres what they look like, but they can be had at the zone for CHEAP, handful of dollars.

I cant remember how far Springfeild is from STL, but I could come down maybe next weekend. THis weekend I'm heading to Ohio for a Fiat get together....(Yeah, I like wierd cars!)
