Default Vehicle Speed Sensor

I read on the forum that a failing speed sensor caused misfires
and results in a 1316 code. Now that my problem is diagnosed,
where is it located? What is it's part number. I have no local
dealer so who if anyone sells it online?

you can replace it yourself in about 5 minutes. its located on the transfercase. its held in by an allen head bolt. someone should be able to take a picture of it if you have trouble finding it. Try Dap, atlantic british, or another rover parts place until you find the lowest price. Does your spedo bounce around? That is another sign of a failing sensor.

best of luck with the install. I just replaced mine this weekend. Getting at the allen bolt is really the only hickup.. just use the two 6inch extentions as the previous post noted.. and come in parallel to the nut from the drives side.. Will not take you too long at all.

One thing to do to prevent it from getting fouled in wet weather is to slap some Permatex Ultra Blue RTV Silicone on it once its all secured and in place.

Best of luck.

Joe
