DO NOT put sealing tap on the thread as it will affect the earthing of the switch. From memory, I think they have a small copper washer on them. If not, screw it about half way out, clean up the surfaces and wack some silicon in there and do it back up again. The reason I say half way out is so that at least half the thread will not have any silicon on it and the switch should still earth properly.

99% likely that the leak is Not from the threaded joint, but straight through the actual switch, so don't bother trying to seal up the threads of the old switch. Of coarse you'll have to screw a new one in. Since the lamp only draws a few mils, whatever you use to seal it, will still probably have some metal to metal contact, and the light will still function.
Personally, if it were me, I'd throw the switch away and use that tapping off the oil pump (that's where it's going into) for a nice mechanical oil pressure gage installation. |

Be sure to get the adapter for British pipe to whatever the gage adapter thread is. If they don't have one, you can make one using either the old switch by sawing off the plastic portion, gutting the switch bits, and tapping the center to take the gage fitting, or you can use a 1/2" fine thread bolt, cut off at 1/2" and drilled and tapped. All this sounds like alot of trouble but not alot of the box autoparts stores carry the adpaters. I am pretty sure Carquest does.
$12 sounds cheap enough. I have a Sun something or other in the 110 because NAPA didn't have the VDO that matches the rest of my gages in stock. While you're at it, why don't you consider a mechanical temp gage too. |

There should be a sperate hole that can be used for a pressure guage. Be careful about getting rid of idiot lights as that are what they for. That is, you don't sit there looking at a pressure guage and where you fit the guage is likely to be out of direct line of sight. I light coming on in front of you is a better way of letting you know your in trouble. If there is not a seperate position for the guage, you might try a "T" piece to enable both to be connected up. Also remember that the more guages you have the more things you will worry about.

I just worked on a range rover with a oil pressure light problem.
anyway since he chose not to change his oil that often the truck would warm up and knock loud as hell . needless to say to check the oil pressure we took an old oil pressure switch and hooked a series of adaptors so that it ran at a 90 degree angle underneath the harness and the belt. otherwise we had to run the truck with no belt and with no alternator running. pain to set up but it was apart of diag so be it. had to take off the entire belt, puley, and alternator. then take it back off again, and put it back on again to get the oil pressure tester out. needless to say I had to clean the oil screen and do an engine flush to get the crap out and the oil pressure normal.

LRDisco94, your Discovery doesn't leak. It marks its territory.
