OK just wondering what kind of brake fluid people are using in their Discos? Time to bleed out the old crap that is in there, but am not real sure what's the best stuff to use. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Any kind works. As long as it is proper specs. I believe they are DOT 3 but check your owners manual.
trust me having synthetic wont save you anything. If the calipers are gonna stick they will stick. |

Synthetic brake fluid doe not absorb moisture and is very hard to burn so you have less chance of this wear starting or progressing if you use a good synthetic. Mike |

Disco 1, according to the literature, uses DOT 4 brake fluid. I was tempted to replace it with Silicone based fluid 2 years ago but chickened out. Some restoration people like the silicone fluid as it is non-hydroscopic but I have read that it boils at a lower temperature than regular (alcohol based?) fluid. Also, apparently some types of rubber seals don't like the silicone fluid - never had a problem myself. Was told that the military uses the silicone stuff, but have no idea if this is true. Stick to the DOT 4 regular stuff - I used Wagner fluid recently.
BTW, don't forget to replace the clutch fluid as well. |
