Default What year is the most reliable Disco?

I've heard 1994-95 good, but Gas Guzzlers worst than same year RRC. 96-97 transitional years are bad. Very Good 98-99 before Disco II. Disco II lots of gremlins and expensive to fix and head gasket problems like 96-97. Your experiences please.

I have a 97 that's pushing 250,000km on the clock and it's the most solid vehicle I've ever owned. Of course rust is an issue... the frame is solid and in great shape but the engine compartment is coming apart. Mechanically speaking, the engine runs amazingly smooth on little more maintenance than what the manual suggests for the mileage.

But from reading some stories on the web, I think I got a rare pearl

I have a 97 DI just short of 100,000 and have had zero problems thus far. A little oil drippage but other than that a great vehicle!!

My LR disco 98 LSE is the last model that has GEMS engine; I you pay close attention to its parts, my disco shares some parts with the LR 97 Defender 90! My British racing green truck has hit more than 145K mi. Other than the poor fuel-efficiency - common to SUVs - I cannot complain. Of course, my disco only knows the genuine parts, maybe that is why it is still in good shape. Leaks? Understable for a 10-year-old off roader.

96' perfect for me just minor repairs: new radiator, new belt, new power steering pump but leaks oil a little bit. It helps to really get that 3 month/ 3,000 mile oil change makes engine run so much smoothly especially in AZ summers.
