Default whats the best way to add gear oil?

My 94 disco (226,000 miles) has leaked some gear oil due to a "not so bright previous owner" and i was wondering what is the best way to add more to the gear box behind the tranny? Is there a specific type of lube I should use? I was thinking of using a "restoring" type, I used before (cant think of the name) but it was quite thick, almost sticky, trying to keep any possible leaks from happening.
Any ideas?

Sounds like your transfer case... it takes 75w90 gear oil... you are probably thinking of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer .... to add fluid to it, you need to pull the fill plug and just pump it into there... its on the back side of the case, near the parking brake drum. If I were you, I'd drain all the fluid in there, and fill it back up with some new 75w90 dino fluid... I think it takes about 2 quarts.

Find a little pump that attaches to the bottle of fluid. I got one when I changed the fluids last time and it made it so much easier for the diffs. It is damn near impossible to fill the transfer case without a pump.

I use one of those clear plastic tube thingys that screw right on top of the bottle of 90wt. Just position it higher than the hole and give it a squeeze. Doesn't make too big of a mess.
