Default Wrecked disco....

Well, the final word is in... "It will cost more to repair than replace".

My first offer from the insurance company was 6090.00 minus 500.00 deduct. and when they get the police report and it shows the 3rd party hit and run, they will send me another check for 250.00 as a reimbursement of half my deductible. I guess the initial check will be 5590.00 (plus the 250.00 later).

Do you think 5840.00 for a 98 land rover disco is fair? I have looked high and low and can not find another 98 Land Rover for that money.

This is just making me sick...

I thought I was going to be able to keep the Disco and get into another 97-98 without losing much and actually have a complete spare parts car (minus bumper, psgr light assembly, fender, hood, one shock... maybe front diff).

Seems my definition of replacement cost and insurance definition of replacement cost vary slightly.

Just doing a quick search on discoweb's vehicles for sales, 98s seem to be going for 5-7.. I'd try to convince them to up a bit though.. If you could get about 7 out of it, youll be able to get a nice pick of 98s..

that stinks man, ive totaled a car before and it was not cool. it was technically my fault although the lady was flying around a corner and reading the newspaper at the same time. i hit her in the saide going about 10-15 maybe. i had been stopped waiting to turn and had just started to move. my front end was smashed up pretty good but the car was still running. i turned it off and then turned it back on a few minutes later once i realized i needed to get out of the middle of the road. i hit my head pretty good on the airbag so i guess i wasnt thinking strait at first. actually i hit my eye on the airbag. apparently it went off too fast for me to blink and it scratched my cornea. i was basically crying (not really but looked like it) out of that eye for a few days, and i couldnt see out of it for like a month. it wasnt pretty, but no permanent damage so im thankful. but basically my car was still driving, didnt sound bad, didnt have any damage from the firewall back, but it was totalled. i was not a happy camper.

the useful part of this post is that they offered me a lot less than i would be happy with for my totalled car (i dont remember how much) so i went on autotrader.com and cars.com and places like that and found cars same model and trim with similar mileage selling for more and put together a little folder with like 10 examples and a cover letter and took it down to my local state farm agent. they said they would look at it and called a few days later with a much better offer. so try something like that i say!

i totaled my '01 SE7 in september...i could not find one under 18,000 in my region, with the all the options that mine had. They basically take a fair market value, and give an average of what they think it's worth...according to alot of the guys on here, i got a good amount of money out of it..but i was also hoping for a good sum of money....i ended up with 14,100....they take into account how well the mechanical aspect was taken care of...the interior such as the carpet/ seats..and also the exterior..the cleaner the car. the more you will get..

They low-balled me when I totaled my D2. Get comps on the net from every website that you can find with cars in your area. Save the pages, get the adjustor's e-mail and bombard them with comparable Land Rovers. Tell them in so many words (be polite) that they're full of it and you feel you should get X amount of dollars based on your looking around on the net. It took me a couple of weeks (wasn't in a hurry because I couldn't drive anyway) but I got a lot more than they offered. The offered $12,500 for it, I told them I wanted $20,000 for it, I ended up getting $16,500 for it, plus I got to remove all my off-road equipment and sell it myself, which was worth about another $2k or so. Don't give up they always give you a low offer and try and rip you off, it's their job.

that does seem low. Jan '05 I totalled my '95 Disco and was paid out around $5600 for my truck. Mileage was 130k. Like people said, price your same truck and miles around the net, in the paper and local dealers. Send that info to your insurance company and hopefully you can get around $6500+.

Remember, they're only going to pay the Actual Cash Value for the vehicle; no matter what one thinks it's worth. I'll agree with the others, look around, save your evidence and present it to the adjuster.

I told my Ins. co. to fuzz off when they said I had to pay for towing and storage on a recovered/stolen/wrecked/totaled motorcycle. Didn't cost me a dime.
