Discovery 2 TD5 Rattling Engine
I have just spent large amounts having the turbo rubber tubes, oil filter housing and gaskets all changed which was working fine for 3 days. Started driving on the 4th day and the nine started making a rattling noise like putting cards on the spokes of your bike wheels when you were kids. Then, it got progressively worse with smoke coming out of the exhaust and the engine shaking significantly.
Took it to a local garage and the mechanic has said that he'll need to crack open the engine in order to find the problem as the preliminary testing has been inconclusive. He thinks its one of the rear cylinders as i had a new one fitted 2 years ago next to an old existing. It does seem like the rear cylinders are pulling more fuel in than the front two but in order to be 100% then engine will need to come apart and they're quoting ate least 10 hours labour.
Does anyone have an idea what the fault is or at least in the direction i need to be looking in?
