water pump grinding

99 Disco Series 1 water pump is making a grinding noise and it just so happened to start after I went to the car wash and sprayed some oil off the water pump and power steering hoses. The pulley connected to the fan blade is a little loose. I can tell the shaft is off center and loose.

My question is whether I can drive it 2 miles home or is it too risky?

Could the water pump shaft or fan seperate and cause more damage?

Can I drive it and just make sure the water temp doesn't get too high. I have already ordered a new water pump and plan to replace it as soon as I can get it home.

If in the same fairly close range to home situation I'd consider removing the fan/clutch and drive it home. That would prevent the possibility of the fan causing damage. As long as the D1 is moving it shouldn't over heat sans the fan. I've driven my D2 sans the fan/clutch in 40 dgree weather and never overheated. Still a slight risk the pump could grenade and some damage. No guts no glory or leave/tow.
