replacement transmission

I believe I have a suffix D LT 77 transmission in my 85 defender. the Serial number is 50a0112494d. If the Transmission were to go, as the previous owner blew the engine what suffix is the best replacement? D's were a little weak as they were the earlier version of the transmission.

Replace it with an R-380.

An L series R-380 if you want the strongest, at least according to Ashcroft.

You'll need the correct bellhousing. I've got a 300 TDi here with an R380 bolted to it. It should go in the truck for the last time today.

Use the same bellhousing your LT-77 is bolted to.

The R380 and LT 77 Bell Housing are not interchangeable, the bolt pattern is different.
Ashcroft sell the "short bell-housing" R380 to suit 200 Tdi and 2.5 Deisel.
