AWD Low or Lock for Soft Sand?

I've been running AWD low with my RRC and its LT230 transfer case ... but should I be locking the transfer case for deep sand? Nearly hit the vehicles capacity for handling soft sand the other day and it made me question which setting I should be in ... yes, I'm airing down the tires to ~12 psi. I am driving a heavily loaded 95 RRC at 5900 pounds and running some pretty deep sand here on the East Cape of Baja ... so far I haven't found any sand in Baja that has slowed me down, but this East Cape stuff is some hard to walk in kinda sand!

It can't hurt. All you're doing is locking the fronts and rears together. Doing so prevents the fronts from spinning when the backs are slipping. I'm guessing with that camper and all your stuff you have a rear dominant weight distribution. That coupled with the weight transfer of acceleration/climbing is unloading your fronts a bit and allowing them to spin.

Hopefully you have a sand anchor on board.

Good advice. When I raced in the Arizona desert, that was an absolute must. AZ frowns on using Saguaro to cable to.:devil
