Your Opinion Please on buying a 2008 LR2 that doesn't start
I have an opportunity to buy a 2008 LR2 with 94K miles fully loaded for $2000. The problem is It doesn't start. The dash lights up and most of the electrics, lights, seats, radio, navigation system's LCD and heater fan, but it doesn't try to crank at all when you push the button. I did notice that at some point after trying to start it the word CRASH comes on by the odometer. It has a dead battery that doesn't charge when i jump it with my smaller 4 cylinder sized battery.( could low current have caused a easy fix problem)
I called a mechanic who thought it may be that the code has to be reset. The question I have to You guys is - Is it possible to get a diagnosis and maybe fix for under $1500? Of course under $500 would be preferable. IS IT WORTH IT? IS THE Gamble TOO GREAT?
The guy selling it said he owned it for a year and it worked fine until a big rain. I noticed there is some front bumper damage. but didn't ask if it was around the same time as the starting problem happened. He said he took it to his mechanic who isnt a Rover specialist. The mechanic told him, he thinks it is the hood fuse box. The seller is so sure of it, that bought a used fusebox. I went back to look at it hoping there were just a couple of harness terminals to plug in but there are actually a lot of wires that have to be plugged in. Not an easy job but one i could do if I was certain that was the problem. But when looking at the replacement fuse box It really just looks like wires and ports with nothing much to get damaged
