11 Thrown OBD2 Codes: What's Going On?

  • Had the Service Engine Soon light come on, which I narrowed to a failed MAF.
  • I replaced the MAF. which normalized performance.
  • A few days later, truck's oil changed (Rotella T6) and noticed afterward that the SES light was gone. Before I left the place, I had the truck inspected sensing this rare opportunity.
  • The truck was inspected and to my surprise it passed. I was told by the technician that no fault codes were detected and everything else was up to par (windows, tires, wipers, brakes, et

Now, I have the SES light *back* on and 11 codes that were pulled by my local Autozone. The codes are: P0102, P1590, P0112, P0300, P0308, P0304, P0306, P0300, P0305, P0302, P0440.

I am aware that all these various errors are not actually in-and-of-themselves true, but the codes are thrown because of major system problems. Some indicate air intake issues (previously solved with my replacement of cracked intake hoses and a new MAF), other indicate cylinder misfire or spark plug issues (although I replaced the spark plugs just about 1.5 years ago).

Note: There are no noticeable performance issues with the truck. No stalls, bad idling, mysterious noises or vibrations, etc.

Any ideas?

Zero to eleven codes sounds a little odd. I would re-set them all, wait for the SES light again and re-scan. Any repeats would be where I would start.

How is the reset done? Disconnecting the battery?

Just battled something similar on my 2002 Disco. The high mileage items are always good to check (see Mike's article if needed), but one thing I've noticed that hasn't been pointed out in several articles is the need to check the O-Ring on the fuel injectors. I did a smoke test and saw a lot of smoke low in the block. Changed all my gaskets to no avail. Then it occurred to me that the fuel injectors seemed to come off very easily when doing the gaskets. I took it apart again and found all of the o rings were hard, flat, wheels (opposed to what the should be). $20 later, I had replaced the o rings (carefully) and pushed them in ( they are really snug when done right). All errors are now gone (misfires, lean codes,rough idle, etc.) and my disco is running nice and smooth!

Not saying this is the fix, but definitely worth starting with a smoke test. $50 at most mechanics.

Correct. However, my local parts places will no longer re-set codes. Some idiotic law here in PA. Just buy your own or there is a pretty cool smart-phone app. that turns your phone into an OBD2 tool.

buy an OBDII code reader, you own a land rover, you're gonna need it anyway
