Transmission glitch

My tranny has intermittent shift issues. Mostly shifts ok, but sometimes it won't shift into 5th and 6th unless I manually shift it. Low fluid? Dirty filter?

Can be fluid, I would check the level, but it will not shift to high gears until engine warmed up

It did this even when weather was warm. I wasn't sure if fluid level could be the issue because it's not slipping? I will check the fluid level. Does it matter what type of fluid I put in since I don't know the previous maintenance?

How many miles on your LR3?
The Transmission fluid on an LR3 should be changed every 60 to 75K miles. I had mine done at about 85K with filter. at 111K plus miles now and its very smooth. Diffs and TC case every 25K

My 08 LR3 is doing the exact thing...having a hard time shifting to 6th gear when tranny warms up. I can Sport shift all the way to 5th and have no issues driving until I try to shift into 6th and then car would "buck" and I'll end up trying to downshift manually and sometimes it refuses to get out of 6th gear. It will take me a few times slapping the shifter down gears. I took mine to my indy, so they said they'll look at it today. They said they're checking fluid level first.

170,000 when I got it , 177 now, changing all fluids next week. I read that steering angle sensor could have an effect on shifting?

Does it shift thru the gears manually if you use sport shift or command mode shifting? Mine will shift great all the way thru to 5th gear....just as long as I stay away from 6th.

Yes mine shifts fine through all gears manually, just 5 &6 are slow sometimes in auto. Hoping fluid change is the answer.

Well mine is in the shop...I may not find out what's wrong until Wednesday. I'll update you as soon as I know. Hopefully it something simple. Doubt it though. Lol

Hey zilla...did the fluid change help? I'm getting the pan, filter and build changed. Plus the oil cooler hose replaced ( it was leaking). The dealer pulled the codes and said their TSB recommends replace transmission. So I took it somewhere else. Hopefully the dealer was wrong or just saying that since it may be easier to replace the tranny instead of troubleshooting deeper.
UPDATE:
Well the shop came back and stood it definately needs a new transmission... but their price is half of what the other place told me. $4800 installed... hopefully my LR3 will be back on the road by the end if next week!
