Will A pre 91 LT 230 be a direct fit

Yes.
Just double check that the prop shafts are the same length and whether the handbrakes are the same type.

I assume you have a viscous unit install at the moment. If so the linkage and lever have to be changed. But should be in same position

yes I currently have a 90 classic with a rebuilt viscous coupling. I have located a very good condition LT 230 with linkage from a 91.
However does not have the side mount and will have to source that. This is all for a future swap if I have any issue with the V coupling.
I believe this early transfer may have a bit of gear noise compared to chain unit but will be bullet proof and I will not have to change transmission output shaft to mate up.
