Left rear door handle RRC

So...I just replaced my exterior left rear door handle, and...it doesn't work. I've looked and looked and I cant figure out where I went wrong. It looks like from diagrams etc., that all you need to do is insert the "elbow pin" into the exterior handle spring loaded lever. Which i have done. When simulate opening the handle the "elbow pin" moves the mechanism that is connected to the rod that runs the inside handle. Note that the inside handle does open the door. The electric locks work in the RRC and the door is unlocked when I try to open from the outside.

The RRC is a 1991 if that matters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There should also be a clip that secures the rod to the handle. I'm not sure, from your post if that clip was present on the replacement handle.

Talking Problem Resolved

I have been struggling with this same issue and theorized that the issue was that the plastic plunger that moves when the exterior handle is operated had lost some of it pushing power and was slipping on the metal plate that moves the rode that is connected to the mechanism. Installed a small bolt and square nut so that the plastic piece would have something to get a grip on and problem solved. Email me for pic
