Looking at '03 DII

I am looking at a 2003 Discovery SE7 with 108K. The serial number is in the dreaded range. I am trying to find the previous owner, etc. to see what has been done. The vehicle is clean and runs well.

Absent being able to find additional information, can any assumptions be made about the engine with 108K--i.e. it is a time bomb, or that making it to 108K means it is a lucky one? If the engine is original, can anything be done to mitigate the oil pump/block problem?

How much is a clean '03 with a blown engine worth?

I don't think there is any real way to know if the oils pump has been done without documentation or pulling it apart and checking the pump.
Other than no c.d.l. There is not much different about a 2003 in my opinion.
As for what it is worth "with a bad engine" not much... Parts really.
Guys like Paul Grant make a good buck parting them out.

I personally over the past roughly 3 years, have bought a 2000 d2, 1997 d1, 2001 d2 and most recently a 2002 d2 from California (super clean and 105,000 miles -only needs a radiator and tires).
All 4 needed some work but have cost me less than $1000 dollars each to buy

@108K the engine is likely to be past the "catastrophic failure" phase of things but there's still a chance that the pump gears are broken.

When I took apart my '03 timing cover (@110K miles) the outer pump gear came out in 3 pieces but despite this the pressure was still good. There's really not all that much you can do about it. Usually by the time you replace the cracked gears the engine is broken in enough to not have it happen again. Most of the damage occurs during low mileage when the engine tolerances are tight.

The only thing you will have to deal with soon is leaky head gaskets. By 120K miles nearly all of them are leaky to some extent. I had a minor leak for 30K miles that never got any worse but some HGs go quickly and overheat the motor, slip liners, etc.
